FESTIVAL | International Shakuhachi Festival

Staroměstské náměstí 4/1, Old Town, Czechia
Pražské kreativní centrum - 1.a 2. patro

The shakuhachi, an ancient Japanese flute, inspires composers and audiences worldwide and presents a joyful symbiosis of old and new. The festival sets out to foster new perspectives on Japanese and contemporary music, serving as an artistic and educational platform for artists, musicians and students of music. Every two years, ISFP presents the highest quality traditional and contemporary music.

This year’s International Shakuhachi Festival Prague will be held 12–16 September 2019. The five-day event includes a symposium, several concerts, and intensive study group sessions and workshops. While study groups or workshops will be led by professional shakuhachi and koto players, even absolute beginners will have the opportunity to take part, for instance through Hands On courses involving all three instruments. Find out more about learning at ISFP.

ISFP 2019 opens with Music in Transmission, a symposium organised by NEIRO and the Department of Musicology of Charles University. In the following days, you may experience and study spiritual music alongside poetry and experimental film. This year’s special highlight will be a concert by the BERG Orchestra, which will present the works of Toru Takemitsu, Dai Fujikura, Kotoka Suzuki and world premieres by Hiroya Miura, and Jan Rösner.
